Theia
In 2023, I pursued a deeper understanding of design by completing a rigorous, hands-on UX design program sponsored by Google. The course covered the entire UX process—from mapping user journeys to developing high-fidelity app designs using Figma and Adobe XD.

For the final project, I was tasked with creating an app focused on social good. After consulting with friends and family to identify a meaningful and unmet need, I chose to design an app to support individuals experiencing abuse from family members or partners. I conducted thorough research into existing resources and programs, aiming to develop a solution that addresses gaps in current offerings.
Completing this program has equipped me with confidence and practical skills in UX design, including wireframing, prototyping, and building functional web designs. While I’ve long created design assets for web platforms, this course gave me valuable insight into how those individual pieces come together to craft meaningful, user-centered experiences.

Final Designs
Theia, named after the goddess of light and insight, is a discreet and secure app designed to support individuals experiencing abuse. The app icon is fully customizable and password-protected in multiple ways to ensure privacy and safety. Theia offers a comprehensive suite of resources, including educational materials to help users recognize signs of abuse and tools to develop a personalized safety plan. It features dedicated sections for informative articles, access to local support services, and a confidential peer network for those without trusted contacts. Users can also securely store notes and sensitive images separate from their phone’s camera roll. An emergency tab allows users to quickly notify authorities of their location or trigger a phone ring, providing an opportunity to discreetly step away from dangerous situations.

The Process
This project spanned several months of dedicated research, iterative testing, and design refinement. It began with a foundational concept and wireframes, progressing through low-fidelity prototypes that underwent thorough usability testing.

Based on user feedback, I developed the final high-fidelity prototype and crafted the complete visual design system for the app, ensuring a cohesive and engaging user experience. Below, you can explore the full case study submitted as part of my final certification.
